Heads up! Kīlauea Visitor Center (KVC) in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park will close Monday, February 17, 2025 at 5 p.m. for extensive renovations. Volcano House hotel, shops and restaurants will remain open.
KVC restrooms, sidewalks, water station and half of the parking will be unavailable during the construction project. Visitors should plan ahead and be prepared for limited services and parking.
Where can you find park rangers and volunteers? Starting Tuesday through Thursday, find us at Uēkahuna (about 2.8 miles west of the park entrance on Crater Rim Drive), the last parking lot on the left.
While ranger programs will continue, visitors should plan ahead, come prepared and expect limited services. The water refilling station at KVC will be unavailable. Be sure to bring your own water or purchase at Volcano House. The park film and programs like After Dark in the Park and Nā Leo Manu are suspended until KVC reopens.
The project could take up to two years to complete.
Where are toilet facilities located during the construction?
Portable toilets will be available next to Kīlauea Visitor Center, at the ball field parking area near the temporary welcome center at Kilauea Military Camp, and at Nāhuku lava tube. Vault toilets are available at Kīlauea Overlook, Kīlauea Iki Overlook, Devastation, Maunaulu, Hilina Pali Overlook, Kulanaokuaiki, the end of Chain of Craters Road, Kīpukapuaulu day use area, and Kahuku. Portable toilets are available at Uēkahuna until the restroom reopens hopefully before the scheduled completion date.
